North
American Indian Language Materials, 1890–1965: An Annotated
Bibliography of Monographic Works
The first, general purpose of this annotated bibliography
is to provide an update of James C. Pilling's nine American
linguistic bibliographies for the United States Bureau
of (American) Ethnology. . . . A second, more specific
purpose of this bibliography is its potential for use
in Native American education programs. The bibliographies
by Evans and Abbey [Bibliography of Language Arts Materials
for Native North Americans: Bilingual, English as a
Second Language and Native Language Materials, 1965–1974]
cover the post-1964 period and focus on bilingual materials
for Indian education programs. Our purpose was to fill
the gap between Pilling's work and 1964.
